Frequently asked questions
About our handmade Beckenham kitchens
A bespoke kitchen catering to your unique style and requirements will be a pleasure to use, every day. Our handcrafted kitchens are always a perfect fit, tailored to work seamlessly in unconventional or awkward spaces. Our personalised approach means you can include special features that are unique to your space to maximise functionality, and reflect your personal taste. Because they are built to last, you can expect a lifetime of enjoyment from a handmade kitchen.
We tend to use a melamine faced MDF material from FINSA, or sometimes plywood in the construction of our cabinet carcasses; they provide both strength and durability. We use solid timber, typically oak or walnut, for our drawer boxes, with traditional dovetail joints. The choice of material for doors varies according to each customer’s preference. We might use ash for a classic painted shaker door, natural oak for a more traditional look, or a high-gloss acrylic finish for a sleek, contemporary style.
The cost of a custom-made Beckenham kitchen depends on the space, design requirements, client specifications, and the materials being used. It will certainly cost a lot more than a ready-made ‘off the shelf’ kitchen, but bespoke kitchens are an excellent investment. They are made to last and will give you a lifetime of pleasure. As a guide, a small kitchen will cost from £50,000, rising to over £70,000 for larger spaces.
Bright, airy kitchens with natural tones endure in popularity. A central island is still a must-have for most bespoke kitchens – often used to join the cooking zone to a social or dining area, for additional storage or to incorporate a breakfast bar. Pantries or larder cupboards are also becoming more of a kitchen staple for the sheer joy of using them. And we’ve definitely seen a resurgence in pops of colour, along with brass accents and statement ambient lighting.
A kitchen island is a wonderful addition to any kitchen and suits traditional and contemporary styles equally well. Kitchen islands often divide the working space from social areas, maintaining a communal feel and a more open-plan aesthetic that suits many Beckenham households. Islands are incredibly versatile and offer somewhere to cook, chat, study or work from home, and enjoy casual dining. The space under the island is ideal for additional storage, wide spacious drawers and of course, a wine fridge!
Traditionally, most kitchens would have a pantry or larder as a separate room to store food. Over the years, homes have evolved to absorb these rooms into living space. Large bespoke pantry cupboards are now taking the place of traditional larders. They offer bespoke storage for all your food and other kitchen essentials; easy to access but neatly shut away. Pantry cupboards can incorporate marble shelves for the cool storage of eggs and butter, vegetable drawers and spice racks. And we often include power sockets so that the space can be used for small kitchen appliances to save them from cluttering up countertops.
Bespoke wine storage or a custom-built bar are a fabulous addition to any kitchen, creating storage for your collection or a hidden bar to reveal on social occasions. They not only add a stylish feature to your Beckenham home, they can be a real talking point! We can also supply innovative appliances to store your wine perfectly, including wine fridges and conditioners.
Choosing the appliances for your kitchen is one of the most important design decisions. A huge range of appliances are available for Beckenham kitchens, from those offering time-saving practicalities for busy family life, to more sophisticated machines appealing to experimental chefs. Quooker taps giving you instant boiling, hot, cold and even sparkling water are increasingly popular for their sheer convenience, and for the stylish options available. While it’s important to ensure that your new kitchen has all the appliances you need, you should also be realistic. You might like the idea of a Miele steam oven, for example, but will you really use it? Or would the space be better assigned to something else? It is an important investment, and once to consider carefully.
There are many creative and useful ways to incorporate power into your kitchen. As well as the option for skirting and countertop level sockets, they can be set into countertops for easy access, or installed under, or within, cabinets for a sleek profile. Pop-up socket towers can be hidden in your countertop or island, popping up at a simple press of the finger when needed, giving you a convenient power source for small appliances that’s subtly housed when it’s not needed.
