Creative with space – a bespoke bedroom and dressing room in Chelsfield

We were delighted to be part of designing the interior space for this stunning home in Chelsfield.

The owners are long-standing customers, so we were thrilled to be invited back to work on this new project for them alongside Listed Building Creations, one of the best construction teams in the area.

The brief was to design and build bespoke bedroom furniture, along with a spacious dressing room.

The key to the design was creating versatile cabinetry that would cater to their needs, whilst ensuring a distinctive, unique aesthetic that was also sympathetic to the property.

Green elegance

Green is renowned for bring a restful colour, so it works perfectly in a bedroom setting.

Our customers chose the rich, earthy shade of Egger Fir Green for their carcasses, so we painted the handmade cabinetry to match their colour choice. It certainly has the wow factor when illuminated by the task lighting.

Double-step design

The cabinet design is Shaker style, with a double-step. This detailing creates depth and shadow that enhances the colour tones and elegance of the design.

It is set off by the cut-glass style handles that lend themselves perfectly to bedroom furniture.

Solid oak

The dressing table top and shelves are crafted from solid oak. The warm wood tones are ideal to set off the deep green.

All cabinetry panels have been painted, including behind the shelving, to give a feeling of calm uniformity.

Clever lighting

Subtle lighting has been incorporated above the mirror and surrounding the shelves.

This creates an understated lighting alternative to ceiling lights, especially in the early morning and evening.

A place for everything

The dressing room needed to ensure that everything had its place, so we created a compartmentalised design.

This gave flexibility and fulfilled our customers’ brief of making sure there was enough hanging space for both Mr and Mrs!

There are also designated areas for everyday shoes and boots, as well as items that needed to be stored.

The symmetry of the panels gives a greater sense of height to the room too, enhancing the spacious feel.

Cohesive yet individual

The Shaker cabinet design with double-step is continued in the dressing room to create a sense of cohesion with the bedroom furniture.

The cabinetry carcasses in the dressing room are Finsa Lissa Oak , giving that feeling of warmth when the doors and open and the internal lighting illuminates the contents.

Contrasting colour

The chosen colour scheme incorporates Farrow & Ball’s ‘Strong White’, which has a grey base tone that is suited to period design.

Alongside this, our customers have chosen a similarly rich colour to the Fir Green in the bedroom, in another Farrow & Ball shade: ‘Pelt’. A deep purple that looks different depending on the light, giving a stylish and unique pop of colour.

Subtle housing

We always ensure that practical solutions are aesthetically pleasing.

This was certainly the case with the cupboard that we built to house electric cables.

By mirroring the Pelt colour for the cupboard, the décor is continued, whilst ensuring that the home’s practical aspects are easily accessible.
