A Scandi-inspired en-suite, an elegant study – bespoke cabinetry for every style
We were invited by previous customers to their newly purchased home in Keston, Orpington, to discuss some bespoke cabinetry projects throughout their home.
As part of a complete refurbishment, we transformed their attic space to provide functional shelving that made the most of the awkward spaces, and we were thrilled to demonstrate our creativity with their stunning bespoke en-suite and study.

Scandi inspiration
The brief for this bright, master en-suite was to achieve a relaxing, spa feel with Scandinavian-inspired styling.
Scandi décor is characterised by certain key elements:
- natural materials such as wood, stone and marble,
- making the most of natural light,
- muted, calm colours,
- hints of cosiness through textiles,
- furniture and cabinetry that’s understated and contemporary in design.
To achieve the desired aesthetic, we designed the bespoke cabinetry to incorporate 10mm oak slats.
Push-to-open cupboards enhance the minimalist look associated with Scandi design, as does the open shelving above.

For the cabinetry carcasses and shelving, we used Finsa Lissa Oak for its moisture-resistant properties.
To further increase the durability of the handmade cabinets, we incorporated moisture resistant veneered board, and protected them with a 5% sheen matt lacquer.
The rebated display lighting was also suitable for an environment with heat and moisture.
The back panelling is painted with the warm, light-enhancing tone of ‘Chaste’ by Paint and Paper Library.
All elements have been carefully considered to perfectly meet the brief.

The oak theme is continued with the twin mirrors above the sinks. Warm grey and beige tones in the ‘Calacatta Gold’ marble-effect porcelain wall panelling bring all the aspects together cohesively.
The textured blind fabric is the perfect way to bring in that touch of cosiness associated with Scandi design.
Multi-purpose elegance
The brief for our Keston customers’ study was straightforward – they wanted bespoke cabinetry designed around the antique fireplace surround.
The key to the design was ensuring that it retained a feeling of elegance and simplicity, whilst fulfilling all its requirements.

Our customers wanted an electric fire; a contemporary Stovax Gazco eStudio fire was selected to sit perfectly within the clients’ existing mantelpiece.
The functionality of the cabinetry needed to incorporate a TV surround, along with wine storage, display and book shelves.
Rebated lighting is included in all shelving, to highlight contents and bring ambiance.
We designed bespoke moulding to the cabinet doors to emphasize the traditional décor and furniture styling. The handles are Armac Martin’s ‘Harold’ hammered knob, in dark aged brass finish.
The cabinetry carcasses are Finsa Lissa Oak, whilst Finsa’s Hidrofugo was selected for the shelves for its moisture-resistance.
The cabinets are painted in the versatile shade of ‘Wattle V’ by Paint and Paper Library, whereas the elegant ‘Fynbos’ green was chosen for the back panels of the recesses.
The interior designer’s view
I recently worked with Jack at Great British Kitchens & Interiors on a large project that involved his expertise in designing and creating cabinetry for a gentleman’s study. Without doubt the most beautiful craftsmanship I have come across. An excellent and highly professional team, punctual, tidy and attentive to every detail.
As an Interior Designer, it’s extremely important to be able to work well with other professionals in a collaborative manner and they were a joy to work with.
The result was beautiful and I hope to work with them again. Can’t recommend them highly enough.
