Always a pleasure, never a chore – a bespoke utility room in Oxted
The joy a bespoke utility room is not to be underestimated!
We have worked on several bespoke cabinetry projects at Vanessa and Nick’s beautiful lodge in Oxted, Surrey. Study furniture, book shelves, wardrobes, and a window seat with storage have all been designed and custom built to suit their specifications.
Perhaps the pièce de resistance of their unique projects was their stunning wine store.
However, when it comes to making home admin both efficient and a pleasure, a bespoke utility room with every aspect carefully planned has a big impact on day to day living.
Practical, simple, easy to maintain
The creation of Vanessa and Nick’s utility room was part of a larger overhaul of their space that included the addition of new stable doors.
With two dogs coming in and out, a practical, open space was paramount, with flooring that would look great but also have a natural appearance and make cleaning quick and easy.
Kitchen overflow
Entertaining their family and friends is a huge part of Vanessa and Nick’s homelife and something they love to do.
A utility room can act as a wonderful back-up to your kitchen. Having additional space to store food and drinks can be helpful when you’re hosting a party, and especially at times of the year such as Christmas, when cupboard and fridge space can be at a premium!
Additional cupboard storage and worktop space for preparation were important considerations for Vanessa and Nick. The space to prep and store platters of food, wine glasses and drinks – without cluttering up their kitchen and dining area – was a priority.
Two additional built-in Siemens freezers mean they don’t need to overfill their kitchen appliances.
Plus, it’s very useful to be able to store bulkier items separately, such as dog food for example!
Sharing the load
Vanessa and Nick now have a truly enviable laundry room!
Large cupboards are purpose-built for airing clothes, making sure that everthing is subtly tucked away. Internal lighting makes it easy to find everything and to keep things well-organised.
Everything has been carefully considered so that it’s easy to air, store and turn-around the laundry – whatever the weather.
Sleek, practical design
Every aspect of this practical space has been designed to create a feeling of calm and order.
Our plans were carefully considered so that this sleek impression extended to every aspect of the build, as well as the visual aesthetics.
The underfloor heating manifold and pipework are hidden behind the airing cupboard. The boiler is concealed within the cabinetry.
Vanessa and Nick chose Finsa ‘Lissa oak’ cabinetry carcasses to give warmth to the internal cupboard space. The light grey acrylic gloss doors and trims along with Amerock Esquire handles give the streamlined and fresh look they wanted to achieve.
The light grey gloss of the doors contrasts perfectly with steel grey leathered granite countertops, finished with a sink and tap by The 1810 Company.
