Elegant, calm, bright – a ‘future-proofed’ Purley kitchen

Alex was referred to us by friends, so he knew that he was in good hands from the moment we met. He had complete faith in our expertise to realise his dream bespoke kitchen at his home in Purley.

He wanted a fresh, contemporary design, that would be easy to maintain and future-proof his home by standing the test of time. Not only did it need to function perfectly, above all, it needed to be beautiful.

The result is a bright, cohesive space with hidden aspects that elevate its functionality.

Combined kitchen dining

The original space was tired and dark – Alex wanted to bring it up to date.

We worked in partnership with local building contractors JB Construction Ltd for the building work. JB Construction completed a knock through into Alex’s existing dining room, installed bifold doors onto the garden, and ensured that the space was fully prepared in readiness for us.

A key part of Alex’s requirements was a space that would seamlessly combine cooking, dining and entertaining, whilst maintaining a calm and cohesive aesthetic.

Subtle details such as the door handles and chair legs, along with the chosen design of the stools and dining chairs bring the space together beautifully.

Blue/grey elegance

The floor to ceiling, along with the split level kitchen cabinetry, is painted in the rich blue grey of Farrow & Ball’s Inchyra Blue.

This chosen colour, along with the Shaker cabinetry styling, achieves the timeless aspect that Alex had envisaged.

Amerock Esquire handles, finished in polished nickel / golden champagne, complete the elegance.

Hidden functionality

The bank of cabinetry works extremely hard for this kitchen. It houses a range of state-of-the-art Miele appliances, including a MasterCool fridge freezer, twin single ovens, and warming drawer, all finished in graphite grey.

A bespoke pantry with built-in microwave gives the ultimate in kitchen convenience. Every part of the space is made the most of, with spice racks housed in the doors, a marble cool shelf for butter and eggs, and deep, spacious drawers underneath.

A full height wine fridge is subtly housed at the far end of the cabinetry, completing Alex’s ideal space for entertaining.

Italian marble

Alex chose Arabescato Corchia countertops for both the central island and the sink splashback.

The 20mm slabs fully clad the island and incorporate a waterfall edge, which adds to the clean, contemporary aspect of this bespoke Purley kitchen.

Arabescato Corchia is a polished Italian marble with a highly fragmented, or ‘brecciated’ surface. This marble is both beautiful and extremely durable.

The black Quooker Flex tap with soap dispenser is the perfect understated partner for the marble. Alex also chose to incorporate a Quooker CUBE, giving him the convenience of instant hot, boiling, cold, filtered or sparkling water on demand.

Island living

The spacious island is the centrepiece of the space, designed to make the most of the wonderful garden view.

Every aspect of the island has been custom built to Alex’s requirements, incorporating solid oak drawers, with bespoke dividers in every one to ensure maximum usability and organisation.

The island countertop incorporates the BORA Professional 3.0 cooktop and extractor – Alex chose the ‘all black’ induction option with gas.

“The kitchen of my dreams”

We were delighted to achieve everything that Alex had envisaged and more:

Following my meeting with Jack at the Showroom in February 2023, he quickly envisaged the picture I had in my head.

Jack’s preliminary design for Alex’s kitchen.

Good organisation and advanced planning are key with a new kitchen, and not a stone goes unturned with anyone at Great British Kitchens & Interiors.

The superb appliances Jack sourced seamlessly integrate. When you are lucky enough have something bespoke and individual, it is all about the details. I am incredibly lucky to have the kitchen of my dreams … they even inscribed ‘made for Alex’ on one of the drawers.

Fantastic British craftsmanship married to slick German technology … if my kitchen was a car, it would be a Bentley!
