Italian inspiration for a truly funky kitchen design
Laura and Fabio had one of our handmade kitchens in their sights from their first visit to our showroom. A new home extension provided the perfect opportunity to put their Italian-inspired design flair into practice, and create a striking, stylish and truly funky kitchen.
Making a splash
Back-painted glass splashbacks are a fantastic way to create a sleek and unfussy design feature In your kitchen, especially where space is limited, or you want to draw the eye through the space.
The toughened glass is an ideal solution for a smooth, wipe-clean surface that stays looking pristine. Back-painting the glass enables design freedom to provide contrasting or complementary colour tones.
Laura and Fabio’s choice of sunshine yellow is the essence of the funky design statement in their kitchen.
It is striking, yet warm, it picks up features such as their blinds and accessories. Most importantly, the contrast of the yellow with their choice of cabinetry elevates it to create an impressive finish.
Ideas from Italy, blue from Paris
A feeling of light and space was an important part of this galley-style kitchen for Laura and Fabio, so that the design statements didn’t overtake the feeling of calm.
Their choice of Parisien Blue gloss cabinetry is the ideal balance to the pop of sunshine yellow. The floor to ceiling profile, along with steel ‘Gola’ handle-less trim, brings elegance and simplicity.
The internal carcasses of the cabinetry are finished in Kronospan Alby Blue, which is complemented by the warmth of oak shelves and drawers.
Cohesive design features
The eye is lead through this kitchen thanks to a series of carefully chosen features.
The steel grey ‘leathered’ granite worktops are understated and tie in perfectly with Laura and Fabio’s kitchen table and chairs.
Appliances without compromise
Laura and Fabio made of the most of the opportunity of designing their kitchen by incorporating sleek, stylish appliances to blend seamlessly into their kitchen.
They chose a Miele single oven, with induction hob flush-fitted into the worktop above. Miele was also their choice for the fridge freezer and Elica ‘Sleek’ extractor.
The sink is the understated and elegant Franke Mythos, fitted with the convenience of the Quooker Flex tap, providing instant hot, cold or boiling water.
Balancing space and style
An important aspect of Laura and Fabio’s brief was that there would be plenty of work and storage space in their galley kitchen.
Part of fulfilling this requirement was the inclusion of a spacious pantry cupboard, which was cleverly built around a protruding pillar to maximise the available space. It is perfectly offset by the warm oak shelving.
