Stunning oak wine store in Surrey
We were delighted to be invited back to our clients’ character home in the Surrey countryside, having become familiar with its lovely, rural setting during pervious bespoke furniture projects.
We had already worked with them to design and build their study furniture, book shelves, utility room cabinetry, wardrobes, and a window seat with storage.
This time, the brief was unique and very exciting – to transform an under-used corner of their living room with a bespoke wine store, to keep all their wine at the perfect temperature, whilst creating a beautiful space to admire.
Design from the ground up
Before any aspects of the carpentry could begin, our first task was to level the previously raised floor to create a seamless transition into the new space.
As well as the work on the floor, there were also electrics and plumbing to reconfigure. A major part of the project involved core drilling outside to accommodate a temperature control unit.
The warmth of oak
The bespoke carpentry was all built using oak or oak veneered board. We had the oak stained and lacquered to match our clients’ existing furniture, and to complement the floorboards throughout the living and dining room.
The overall effect is very warm, especially when enhanced by the LED lighting that was subtly integrated.
Creative storage
We love to get imaginative with our handmade cabinetry.
This project gave us real opportunity to build clever and interesting wine storage, with angles and creative devices that were both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
Stainless steel rods were incorporated to give interest and contrast to the wood.
The lighting was designed to backlight the cabinetry and highlight the bottles, rather than shine into the eyes when undertaking the important job of choosing wine!
Clear view
Critical to the success of this project was the creation of a wine store that is as technical as it is beautiful.
The room was finished with temperature-controlled glass walls and lockable door, in elegant black crittall styling.
Focal point
The result is truly breath-taking.
We are delighted to hear from our clients that every guest comments on the ‘amazing wine room’.
Whilst it makes a stunning focal point, the room can blend into the background when the lights are dimmed and it’s time to relax with a glass of wine on the sofa.
