A house renovation in Dartford with truly personalised storage

Jane and Peter’s modern home in Dartford needed thoughtful reorganisation to support the evolving needs of their two growing teenagers. With each family member pursuing their own interests, it was important to create a home that offered both personal space and opportunities to come together.

From a daughter’s passion for cooking to Dad’s love of golf, alongside a shared enthusiasm for music, film, and arts and crafts, this home needed to work harder to accommodate a busy and creative lifestyle.

The brief was clear: design a space that feels calm, organised and tailored to the way the family lives.

We were delighted to bring this vision to life, creating a beautifully considered, completely unique kitchen with pantry, enhanced hallway and utility storage, a dedicated media and music room, and an inspiring arts and crafts space.

The result is a thoughtfully designed home where clever storage makes everyday life easier – and more enjoyable – for this Dartford family.

Family kitchen

A modern kitchen featuring rich wood flooring, a central island with umber-toned panelling, and off-white shaker kitchen cabinets. There is a dining table at the far end under the window.
The design for this kitchen was firmly rooted in the family spending quality time together, whilst nurturing their daughter’s growing passion for cooking.

There are multiple spaces for social time – from the generous breakfast bar with comfortable seating to the family dining table, carefully positioned under the window and adjacent to the garden doors.

The overarching feeling is freshness and light. The modern shaker cabinetry made from practical Finsa Hidrofugo Plus moisture resistant MDF is finished in the soft tone of Farrow & Ball Cornforth White.

The kitchen island features an umber wood stained finish that brings a natural warmth and complements the rich tones of the engineered wood flooring.

The antique mirror splashback spans the length of the worktops and enhances the sense of light and space.

The Lydia Gold quartz worktops have a subtle gold veining that brings a touch of warmth and elegance.

Jane and Peter retained their Neff oven, but we supplied the BORA Pure cooktop flush mounted within their island to ensure the space is odour and steam free with its near silent cooktop extraction. We also supplied the stainless steel sink, along with a Siemens fridge, freezer and dishwasher.

An unexpected aspect of this understated kitchen is the generous hidden larder. Concealed by a corner cupboard, it’s illuminated when you walk in and the use of space is remarkable…

Space reimagined

A view from the kitchen into the living space beyond showcasing the dresser-style cabinetry used for a home bar incorporating a wine fridge.
For a family that love to socialise together, space for a bespoke home bar was a must-have.

This corner of the room was the perfect space for the dresser-style bar with inclusive wine fridge and cabinetry for glassware behind fluted glass doors that echo the shaker kitchen.

Stacked washer and dryer appliances within smart shaker-style cabinetry finished in a deep sage green – every part of the space has been used for storage.
The utility cabinetry is designed for maximum functionality.

There’s room for small appliances as well as the washing machine and dryer, plus we used every inch of space to create surrounding storage to keep an uncluttered feel.

Hardworking hallway

Jane and Peter needed their hallway to work hard for them.

With golf clubs, shoes and coats to store, the cabinetry design needed to be highly practical as well as stylish and seamless – creating a calm space to walk into.

The solution was a combination of under stair storage and full height cupboards – perfectly tailored to the space.

The under stair storage is set back slightly so that it doesn’t feel crowded and there is plenty of room for the walkway through to the kitchen.

Display shelving has also been incorporated to break up the cabinetry and add a personal touch.

The full height storage in the hallway is the ideal spot for coats and golf clubs.

Alongside this, we designed a built-in seat with integrated shoe storage – ideal for sitting down to put on or take off shoes. It’s these carefully considered  details that make a real difference to everyday living.

Media room

The media room was designed as a space for the family to relax and enjoy their shared love of music and film.

Two walls of bespoke cabinetry are tailored to the family’s exact requirements.

A pull-out shelf was incorporated into the bespoke cabinetry specifically for a record player, allowing it to be used easily or tucked neatly away.

Storage was also carefully planned to accommodate their music collection, with dedicated compartments sized precisely to fit vinyl and CDs.

There is also a window bench seat, offering a comfortable spot to sit and relax while providing valuable additional storage.
