Delighted of Tunbridge Wells – a media unit of dreams
When she moved her young family from London to Kent, the potential Sandy saw in her Tunbridge Wells house became a true labour of love.
An extension, basement and loft conversion, along with a total refurbishment throughout has led to a home that is nothing short of spectacular.
An open-plan family space was to become the hub of their home. Sandy commissioned us to create its focal point – a multi-purpose, bespoke media unit that would live up to her expectations.
Seamless styling
Throughout her home, Sandy has created a feeling of cohesion, with a seamless flow from one space to another in the look and feel of the chosen décor and fittings.
For Sandy, the media unit was a critical element in how her home would be used for family life and entertaining, but she had some important criteria:
As part of the extension to the existing house, we wanted to create one large open-plan space.
The media unit is key feature for that living room, but the design needed to match our new kitchen cabinetry and island, in both style and colour.
The bespoke media unit cabinetry was designed to match the classic shaker style of the kitchen. All cabinet handles were chosen to match the kitchen too, creating the unified style that Sandy wanted.
The kitchen wall units and island are finished in Farrow & Ball Pavilion Gray, so this colour was carefully matched for the media unit panelling.
Grey scale
For the open shelving, Farrow & Ball Pavilion Gray on the external panels is contrasted with the deeper shade of their Manor House Gray on the internal sides.
This creates interest and depth that’s enhanced by subtle, internal lighting.
Centre of excellence
The large, central TV space is framed with open boxed shelving above and closed cupboards below.
A spectacular radiance electric fire underneath the TV screen completes the ultimate focal point in the room.
Entertainment hub
Another bespoke aspect of this unique media unit is an integral home bar on the far right hand side.
True to Sandy’s passion for unity, the bar is complete with marble countertop and mirrored back to tie in with her kitchen design.
A real work of art
What Ben has created for us is just a fantastic display of highly skilled craftsmanship – a real work of art and we couldn’t be happier.
Everyone comments on it when they enter the room and it has been used by friends as inspiration.
Throughout the design and build process, Ben was an absolute delight to work with, he made countless suggestions to ensure we ended up with the media unit of our dreams.
It was a pleasure to have him involved in the renovation and build (so much so that we made him come back to build my bespoke walk-in wardrobe!)
