We had worked with David and Mary in Bromley on two previous occasions, to design their handmade kitchen and later, their bespoke study. It was a pleasure to return to them for a new brief – a tailor made dresser for their dining room, to continue the theme of custom-built furniture in their home.
The classic, subtle profile of Shaker cabinetry is perfect for David and Mary’s home.
The hand-built cabinetry in their kitchen and study perfectly adapts this style to suit each room, so it was the natural choice for their new dresser.
The understated tone of Farrow & Ball’s ‘Elephant’s Breath’ was chosen for the painted doors, drawers, and the tongue and groove panelling in the centre of the dresser. This paint works beautifully with the warmth of the solid 30mm oak top with double pencil edge, and matching oaks shelves.
The painted sit-on units were a carefully designed aspect of this handmade furniture.
The glass shelves are a subtle addition that contrast with the oak, and importantly, were intended to hold David and Mary’s special treasures. These are illuminated by cleverly concealed lighting, which gives a warm glow in the evenings.
The joy of bespoke furniture is that you can have exactly what you want.
Details such as an internal drawer in the right-hand base unit give David and Mary a hidden yet convenient place to store bottles of wine and spirits for entertaining.
The distinct and stylish handles are by Amerock. The design is Esquire in oil-rubbed bronze.
Whether you are looking to design clever under-stair storage, your ideal desk or a dining table that will stand the test of time, we work with you to realise your vision.
We approach every hand-built furniture project with passion and attention to detail, so that we create a piece that you’ll love for years to come.
