Managing the cost of your new kitchen

A handmade kitchen is a wonderful investment, but it isn’t a cheap one. It’s important to know, from the outset, what it is going to cost, so you can plan accordingly.

Because no one likes nasty surprises…

What to expect

We will always give you an exact quote for your kitchen.

A lot of planning goes into making sure that we get to the right price…

Nice to meet you!

Everything starts with the initial introduction. This is usually at our showroom or over the phone. We have very simple discussions about your project and your ideas. This gives us an early understanding of what you’re looking for; your do’s and don’ts, yes and no’s, etc.

Budget is always a tough subject to bring up, but it’s important to discuss it early on. It’s critical to the viability of the project.

Home visit

A home visit is essential to take accurate measurements and identify any anomalies. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors, wonky walls, the position of services and awkward access points will be noted. If ignored, these can impact the design and cost after installation has started. Knowing about them up front means you can proceed without the fear of late changes and unforeseen costs.

Initial plan

Following the home visit, or using your builder’s specifications, we will create an initial plan, including 3D visuals and a detailed opening quotation. The initial design that we propose is just a draft and we encourage feedback to develop it further.

This will also give you a budget figure to consider. Unless there are fundamental changes to the design and/or specifications, this opening quotation will be fairly accurate.

Finalising the proposal

Before we finalise the design and costing, we will undertake further site visits to reconfirm all our measurements, and to check on building works and services. At this point we will agree all the fine details with you in our showroom. Only then do we provide you with the final, fixed price for your new kitchen.

As a rough guide, these are our approximate price ranges:

  • Small kitchen: £30,000 to £45,000
  • Medium kitchen: £45,000 to £55,000
  • Large kitchen: £55,000+

Along with your price, we provide the final designs, including 3D elevations, and detail everything that is included. This allows you to check that it is exactly what you want, before you give us the go ahead.

We aren’t ones for adding on “extras” after this point. We try to tick all the boxes and cover all the bases prior to agreeing the deal. Should anything arise or there be any unforeseen issues, we discuss them at everyone’s earliest convenience to avoid delays. On all our projects, communication is key.

Taking it all into account

In many cases, homeowners are undertaking building work alongside installing their new kitchen. If we are working with builders or other trades, we will prepare clear instructions and service plans for them, concerning what is needed. This helps them to provide you with accurate quotations, with limited scope to “creep”.

With our decades of experience, we are well aware of the surprises that work of this nature can uncover, particularly with older properties. We will advise you of any specific concerns in this area, so that, where at all possible, you are warned of any potential additional costs.

Payment schedule

We will generally ask for a 25% deposit when you give us the go ahead to create your dream kitchen.

A further 65% is payable prior to the start of installation, with the remaining balance paid once the work is completed.

During the installation

Our prices are fixed, so you can rest assured that there will be no “scope creep” from us.

Throughout the project we’ll keep in touch, so if you have any concerns about the decisions you’ve made, we’re there to help. We’ll review the implications of any changes and give you clear information on what this will mean for the costs and/or timescales. Then you can make an informed choice about whether to go ahead with the change.

Peace of mind

Throughout the installation of your new kitchen we’ll keep you up to date with progress. You’ll always know how the work is proceeding and will be informed about any issues we uncover.

We’re on hand to answer any questions you may have or concerns you’d like to raise.

Our aim is that the process of installing your new kitchen should be a pleasure, not a chore!

We are absolutely thrilled with our new kitchen from Great British Kitchens. The quality of the kitchen itself is top-class and the service we received was unparalleled.

Thank you to Vince for your help throughout the planning stages and right through to delivery. And thank you to Jeremy for installing the kitchen and utility in such a professional manner. Nothing was too much of an ask and all communications with other trades (eg electricians and plumbers) were done directly, so all I had to do was enjoy the finished product.

I would highly recommend Great British Kitchen to anyone wanting a new kitchen or utility.
