Bickley revisited – a transformed kitchen that has it all
We originally worked at John and Vanessa’s home in Bickley in 2007, to install their kitchen.
Sixteen years later, we were delighted to revisit their home to undertake a new brief; to transform their existing kitchen, dining and utility rooms into a space that would fulfil all their needs within one, welcoming and stylish hub.
Making connections
For this large, open-plan space to work, it was important for the design to have a seamless flow.
Careful attention was given to the choice of materials throughout, so that natural tones and understated finishes would create a calm and cohesive space.
The rich tones of the Egger Vulcano doors, with Cashmere Matt finish, contrast beautifully with the clean, simple lines of the island and large floor tiles.
Steel grey, ‘leathered’ granite worktops are the perfect complement to the Vulcano doors. We created a bespoke, matching top for the dining table, to unite the two spaces.
The bookcases were hand-built in Egger Vulcano, with oak edging, to match the kitchen.
Less is more
Sometimes it’s the hidden details that make all the difference.
The ‘shark nose’ edging on the granite counter top gives a subtle elevation to the central island.
The handmade cabinetry incorporates Gola ‘bronze’ profiling for a sleek, handle-less design, where required. Whereas strategically placed Henley bar handles, in antique brass by Crofts and Assinder, complement the warm lighting.
Having it all
John and Vanessa’s aim was to achieve the functionality of a cooking / dining / utility space in a vastly improved and beautiful environment. The extent to which this was possible exceeded all their expectations.
A stunning custom made bar with retractable pocket doors, along with an understated wine cooler, create the perfect transition to entertaining.
The bespoke pantry cupboard in Egger Lancaster oak is another hidden gem. With ample storage space, purpose made cold shelf and solid oak drawers beneath, it is highly convenient as well as a joy to use.
A concealed laundry cupboard – an alternative to a utility room – completes the all-encompassing practicality.
State-of-the-art
Cutting edge technology is subtly incorporated within the kitchen.
The island houses the Bora Pure extractor fan within the streamlined hob. John and Vanessa chose twin Miele ovens with the versatile Miele warming drawer. The Quooker flex provides instant boiling, hot or cold water. A Fisher and Paykel American-style fridge freezer completes the suite of appliances.
We design and install stunning bespoke furniture across this area, for example in kitchens in Bromley, Bexleyheath, Oxted, Westerham, Biggin Hill and Petts Wood.
