Case Study: Bespoke Study/Office

10 - February 2017

This beautiful Bespoke Study; in Sevenoaks, is a stunning combination of materials machined and finished with refinement and with an interesting contemporary twist.

The timeless and sophisticated beauty of any Natural Timber is always pleasing to the senses.

On this particular custom study project we have used Natural Black American Walnut and MDF; which we spray painted in ‘Farrow and Ball - ALL WHITE’. The benefit of using MDF for painted finishes is the smooth, grain-less finish you achieve.

As you know, wood is of course a natural product so it can/does move over time; and once out of a stable factory environment and with a change in the surroundings and humidity, it is more vulnerable to the elements. To combat this potential problem, we use Green MDF which has ZERO movement.

The client wanted a modern, sleek and un-obtrusive finish, so we machined the door panels with a simple ‘J-PULL’ handle profile giving us a subtle, clean, linear line running throughout the made-to-measure Study.
The desk itself is scratch proof; 15mm toughened Glass, which we had back painted in the same colour as the tall cupboard doors to give a wonderful continuity and balance of colour and brightness all the way through the room.

By using bright, simple colours; along with the predominant darker Black Walnut, we achieve a fantastic contrast in colours and textures, with the ‘Farrow and Ball - All White’ emphasising the natural colour, graining and character of the timber and making this a real ‘stand-out’ feature of the Stunning bespoke Study.
